Arabian cocktail hour experience - 24 June 2012

Traveled to a new area in Jersey for a lovely cocktail hour. It was our first Arabian wedding so we were excited to take part in the culture. The banquet hall was marvelous and the room itself was HUGE! We were right in the middle of the dance floor and entertained the guests before the couple arrived. They performed a big welcoming dance with the bride and groom on chairs as everyone lifted them up (very similar to the Jewish wedding custom). And they were kind enough to offer us delicious food after we played - now that's the best way to any musicians' heart :)

Enchanting Garden wedding - 09 June 2012

This was a beautiful wedding in the lovely outdoor garden in Spring Lake Heights. We arrived really early and spent that time admiring the view of the lake and the nice set-up for the wedding. The couple choose a very contemporary program, nixing all the traditional pieces (like "canon" and such). It was a little weird for us to play music we tend to do for the cocktail in the prelude, pre-ceremony music --  but the guests loved it! We even had people pulling out their phones, tablets, and cameras to record us jamming to some Beyoncé!

Rain, rain go away - 03 June 2012

Sunday was a peculiar day. Rain was forecast but it was sunny, so we were a little suspicious. The drive up was very nice and traffic-ky but we early. The Surf Club was very lovely, with a great fountain in front and a glorious staircase. The view of the outside wedding was GORGEOUS!! But as predicted, it began to rain and we were scared things would have to move inside. But someone smiled down on us and the happy couple because the rain cleared and left us with a lovely rainbow in celebration of their new love. Yay! It was a fantastic modern ceremony with mix of requested selections. Congrats to the happy couple and thanks for the rainbow-filled wedding and giving us a beautiful ceremony to record:

Toasting to love in the Winery - 02 June 2012

Continuing with wedding season, today we had a great performance at the Brooklyn Winery. At first, we were a little skeptical (a wedding in a winery/bar?) but it was really the perfect location for the Dave and Jo. The venue itself had a lovely skylight and great old wooden walls that gave a very rustic feel to everything. I liked how the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception all took place in the same general room but the workers shifted tables, chairs, and people around to change the layout. The music was a great selection of traditional and "sophisticated" contemporary hits (ballads and jams from the greats) aka no "dance/pop" music. We loved playing more jazz and pop classics for a rather young audience. Just goes to show that great music is cross-generational! :)
