Chuppah by the barrel - 17 November 2012

And winter continues! We find ourselves on the west side of Manhattan at City Winery, a delectable old-fashioned venue for the modern couple! The couple selected a modern program of pop ballads and classical favorites (with a killer exit theme)! It's always a great experience to see a bar/music venue transformed into a lush romantic wedding scene complete with a chuppah surrounded by empty barrels of wine. Well done folks!

Period Wedding in an olden Castle - 11 November 2012

Oh! Winter hits us right on this lovely November day! We return to the very lovely Castle on the Hudson (where we joke that Sir and Lady Hudson reigned for hundreds of years) to a pristine period wedding. This time, we were inside the cathedral like hall where the wedding party adorned Renaissance-esque attire. The music was not period, however, including classic Rock, pop ballads, and a unique "Vivaldi meets Metallica" mix. Too bad we had to miss the dinner as we heard a lovely rendition of "All I Ask of You" played for the couple's first dance!

Grooms wed in the park ... restaurant - 20 October 2012

Never been to the High Line before and we must say, it's fabulous. The Park Restaurant is a quaint, vintage restaurant located next to the High Line. It's got a great decor, wonderful staff, and a lovely bar area just fit for intimate weddings. The grooms really created a very special moment as they were married in the only naturally lighted area of the venue and had the guests surround them in a circle. For the cocktail hour, we were inside a romantically lit bar with plush seats available for us to the play. The guests even started dancing to our pop tunes towards the end. Congrats to the newlywed grooms and thanks for a great end to October!

Halloween wedding! - 13 October 2012

On this blistery day, we make our way upstate for an evening wedding. Much to our surprise, we find ourselves in a Renaissance-like venue and all the guests are in costumes! What?! It's a Halloween-themed wedding! How cool! Too bad we didn't know or we would've dressed up too! The two brides had so much fun and their outfits were stunning! We provided some "scary" costumey tunes for the prelude and then some pop and classical songs for the remaining 3 hours. They were ghoulishly generous enough to even feed us! Thank you ladies for our first ever frightful wedding celebration!

Sunset over the water - 06 October 2012

Wedding #2! Now, it starts to rain :( But thankfully this wedding is inside! We play the ceremony upstairs in a lovely room that has a perfect view of the Manhattan skyline. Ah, bliss... It even got lovelier as the sun set and we saw all the lights of the city. But that didn't make the ceremony any less wonderful! For the cocktail we continued down in the restaurant area. The couple choose a very modern set for both hours (no dance music) so the crowd really enjoyed hearing some indie pop and rock tunes string quartet-ized. What a great finish to a tiring day!

Cloudy central park rock - 06 October 2012

First wedding of the day! The weather was looking gloomy and there was a pretty good chance of rain so we were obviously concerned about this outdoor Central park wedding. However, the skies were good to us (and the couple) as the rain held back until late that night! Yay! Summit Rock is a lovely location right on the west side of Central Park. The guests sat on park benches as we sat on a nicely formed rock and played off to the side. The couple choose some favorite for their prelude music and a more traditional set for the ceremony. It was quite beautiful even with the foreboding dark clouds. Off to wedding #2!

Rain's last hoorah - 30 September 2012

Last wedding of the weekend and we hoped the rain was finally past us. The venue space was very regal and lovely. The outside area looked like a backyard from Better Homes and Garden; we had a roaring fire and a fountain. Pretty good. So we start, right, and then ... our good friend Ms. Rain! Ugh! Thankfully the venue had umbrellas ready and we played underneath a big beach umbrella around a table. It was a little unusual but it worked! Whew! Just in time for "Seasons of Love"! Some of the younger guests could not stop watching us play! We hope they're the next generation of musicians :) September = done!

Rain cometh ... again - 29 September 2012

2nd wedding so this rainy weekend, this time up in the Catskills. Hidden away in a mountainous region is the charming Full Moon Resort. We arrived early enough to warm-up in a well-dressed barn. The weather was getting colder and colder and the sky grayer and grayer ... Worry ... And then it did decide to sprinkle down! But we waited it out and right when the wedding started, the sky cleared up; thank heaven! The ceremony was very naturalistic, underneath a grove of trees, next to a babbling brook. The cocktail hour was inside so it was so warm and toasty :)

Rain cometh - 28 September 2012

Friday afternoon traffic -- not too bad when going up north around 3pm. We arrived at Fox Hill, a quaint country home-like venue surrounded by trees - early enough to see a wedding rehearsal in-progress. The looked like it was about to rain again as it had been on-and-off all-day so we were worried. And what do you know, by the time we start the prelude music outside, it starts to sprinkle! Everyone had to be rushed in and we continued with the indoor location which was prettier considering the gray clouds outside. It worked out well, but curse you rain!!

Wedding #2 in the Flora - 22 September 2012

2nd wedding of the day! Whew! We arrived a little early at this lovely hotel in Florham Park, NJ. The room where the ceremony took place had a nice view of the trees and natural terrain surrounding the area. It looked a bit cloudy and gloomy but that was OK because we were inside! The couple chose a contemporary set for the prelude which many of guest enjoyed -- that's always a good sign! They also wanted music for every part of the ceremony which really helped underscore the teary moments of recognizing the parents, unifying the couple, and - of course - marrying them. All-in-all, it was a great, long, exhausting Saturday!

Bit of tuscany in S.I. - 22 September 2012

Early Saturday is never a good thing for musicians. But it was well worth it as the Tuscan Garden at Snug Harbor was BEAUTIFUL! Hidden away deep in Staten Island, this lovely cultural center has some of the most charming views and areas in all of NYC we had the chance to play for both the ceremony and cocktail hour and really sample the best of the venue. The couple selected standard ceremony music and a more upbeat program for the cocktail hour. The midday sun and Spring-like weather really made the day very accommodating for us and our instruments. One of the best outdoor venues ever!

Mediterranean waterfront entertainment - 16 September 2012

A gorgeous day for a 2-hr drive through Jersey up to Philly for a wonderful outdoor wedding. The venue was a restaurant so we arrived early enough to order some appetizers before gearing up for the wedding. The ceremony took place under a gazebo surrounded by a park and park goers where cheering on the the happy couple. We got a chance to play a wide range of selections as we were the sole entertainment for the 4-hour event! Very exciting! The couple requested their first dance as "Nothing's Gonna Stop Up" and it was very romantic to play for their very special moment. All in all, it was a good day ... with a trip to the open bar :)

Saturday in the garden - 15 September 2012

We've never been to the Bronx Botanical Gardens so we were very much surprised by how beautiful it was! The wedding was in a grove shadowed by trees and flowers with the setting sun in the backdrop ~ Ah, how romantic! The wedding was PACKED with guests and they definitely enjoyed the couples' modern ceremony choices. For the cocktail hour, we played some great new tunes and really got the crowd excited for the reception. The venue staff were so great and helpful every step of the way! We'll definitely be coming back here ... and not just to play :)

Treasure north of the Bronx - 08 September 2012

To continue with our packed September month, we have a very elegant wedding/cocktail just north of the Bronx in Harrison. The club has a gorgeous golf club and the decor in the rooms are exquisite! We had enough time to arrive and rehearse and even got a chance to meet the happy couple while they were taking pictures. They selected a traditional program for the prelude, ol' skool 90's for the ceremony, and more contemporary for the cocktail hour! We love it when couple really go for a blended program that is fun for all musical ears! P.S. They were so cut walking away to "Crazy in Love"!

Springin' into Fall - 01 September 2012

Happy Fall! Wedding season is at it's ultimate climax and begin with a stunning outdoor event in upstate New York. The venue was a very cozy "summer mansion" with a beautiful backyard perfect for a ceremony. So much color and green ... this was definitely not New York City! The bride's dress was stunning and the wedding was a modern Jewish ceremony (complete with the hoopla and glass-breaking). The couple chose a traditional set for the prelude and ceremony but really wanted to pump it up with modern hits during the cocktail hour! We hope the next 10 September events are just as lovely!

Gorgeous drive to the Manor - 21 July 2012

Last-minute booking for a cocktail hour in upstate NY. After a few days of showers and storms, Saturday was unusually beautiful. The weather the perfect for a 2-hr drive upstate, passing by mountains, valleys, rivers; we felt like we were in the Midwest! We even saw rafters and kayakers floating down the river! Amazing! The Manor was right in the woods so it was a very homely and cozy space for a cocktail hour. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the guests enjoyed the Oldies playlist especially the Led Zeppelin. Great times, great drive, great day!

'Sick day' engagement surprise! - 19 June 2012

We had a surprise engagement to play for a lovely couple right here in the city! He acted like he was sick and had her come over after work ... and she was quite angry with him until he got on bended knee. It was very romantic and beautiful! The couple wanted a collection of Beatles tunes so we played an hour or so of their favorites and a little request at the end! What a great way to end the work day :)
